FORMULA One title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have gone wheelto-wheel in all three races this season but both expect the racing to stay firm but fair as the pressure rises.

Hamilton's victory in Portugal on Sunday stretched the Mercedes driver's championship lead over Red Bull's Dutch youngster to eight points.

“We’re going to be sick of each other at the end I would imagine, or sick of racing, because there are so many races,” joked Hamilton, the seven-times world champion. | Reuters

SOUTH Africa ranked sixth globally in the ratio of public electric vehicle (EV) chargers to electric vehicles in 2020. Only South Korea, Chile, Mexico, Indonesia and the Netherlands have more chargers per EV than SA, according to the IEA Global EV Outlook 2021 report released recently. February saw BEV (battery-electric vehicle) registrations overtake those of PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) registrations locally.

The milestone marks the advancements of battery technology in the EV space. | IOL Motoring

A SLIGHT drop in the petrol price is expected to bring much-needed relief to motorists’ pockets. A litre of 95 and 93 octane petrol is expected to cost around 9c less, while the price of diesel will drop by 30c and paraffin by 23c.

The price decrease is due to the slight appreciation of the rand, the Mineral Resources and Energy Department says.

Mancosa senior finance and economics lecturer Meshel Muzuva said international petroleum prices had been stable, allowing the rand to leverage its recent strength. | IOL Motoring
