President expected to address the nation tomorrow

BALDWIN NDABA

ALL eyes will be on President Cyril Ramaphosa tomorrow to see if he will relax restrictions on Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

Ramaphosa had, two weeks ago, promised to review the regulations including the ban on the sale of alcohol and attendance of religious services.

He placed the country under level 4 lockdown on June 27 following a massive surge in infections and admissions including deaths due to the pandemic.

Now, the president is expected to consult with the National Coronavirus Committee and the Cabinet on whether to review his decision or maintain the status quo.

Speculation is rife that Ramaphosa would relax the restrictions after the acting Minister Health, Mmamoloko Kubayi-ngubane admitted that there was a significant drop in infections but warned against people “lowering their guard” in the fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is set to outline details today around the reopening of schools on Monday.

Earlier this month Motshekga said all pupils would would return to daily attendance and normal timetables in an effort to make up for lost teaching time.
