#ATYPICALINTERVIEW: SAMEER NAIK

ACTOR and author Anton Taylor is best known for starring and co-creating hit spoof reality show Jozi Shore. The show, which was created as a spoof of US reality show Jersey Shore, pokes fun at the lives led by Johannesburg and Cape Town youths.

Taylor has also starred in Showmax’s 2017 original comedy series Tali’s Wedding Diary, in which he plays the role of Darren, and has also featured as a rugby commentator on Supersport, including some schoolboy games.

He claimed the title of International Man of Movember in 2011, and is the author of The Wisdom of Jozi Shore.

What does it take to be an ultimate Jozi boet?

I’d like to say hard work, Dianabol and self-belief. But it’s important not to sell false dreams. To be the ultimate Jozi boet, you have to journey inside yourself, ride with your demons and problematic traits, and emerge from the ashes of your former self to be an ascended boet (like myself).

How much do you bench press? As mentioned, I am an ascended boet. I take a holistic view of the bench press. It’s not about the weight, but rather the entire process. How loudly do you scream as you bench? Do you have a team of chinas around you clapping and fist-pumping? Do windows shatter when you drop your weights on the floor? Do you pick up said weights? And, most importantly, after you post the video to Insta, how many thirsty DMS do you receive? In my case, the answer is a lot.

Your favourite party spot in Jozi is?

The city of Joburg is a force of nature. When I go out, I give myself over to the city and see where it takes me. I’ve never been to the same jol twice. So, I’d say my favourite party spot is Jozi.

Tequila or Jagermeister?

My bru, you must understand, I was an ambassador for Stroh Rum 80%, which I used to mix with the now-illegal Jack3d pre-workout before I went jolling. When you talk about these 40% shooters, it’s a bit hard for me to act excited. But if pushed to answer, I’d say tequila and Jagermeister.

The best way to hook up with a girl at the club?

By not worrying about pulling birds. It’s 2021 and the boet is maturing. We’re all about empowerment and self-worth. If a girl likes you, she can let you know. If you feel compelled to approach a lady, you can politely and directly engage her. If she responds positively, that’s great. If she’s not interested, respectfully wish her well.

If there was any advice you could give to an up-and-coming Jozi boet, what would it be?

Be yourself. The nature of the Jozi boet is that it is constantly evolving and improving. Look at the inspiration that is Noel Deyzel. We are reinventing ourselves faster than Covid. Also, fighting is highly overrated – don’t hang out with people and places that give off bad vibes.

Your ultimate celebrity crush?

I’ve had a crush on Kim

Engelbrecht for about two decades, so I’d say that is quite an enduring love. I’m legitimately so happy to see her success, is Reyka. Otherwise, if we look internationally, Dua Lipa is right up there.

The best chow to have after a night out?

Water, chicken breasts and whatever it takes to make sure you can smash the gym the next day. Nothing tastes as good as being in prime condition feels.

Who has the ‘hottest’ girls –

Cape Town, Jozi, or Durban?

In terms of straight “hotness”, all cities are equal. Overall, Joburg girls are generally my favourite. They’re ambitious, down to earth, and easy to be around.

Who is your role model?

Ronnie Coleman. He was unashamedly himself and empowered others to do the same.
