ZIMBABWE’S Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick

Shava, said his government was ready to welcome back its citizens who have lived in South Africa under the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits.

“The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit will expire at the end of this year. Its expiry is naturally causing much anxiety to the holders of this permit,” Shava said, while co-chairing the mid-term review of the Bi-national Commission with International Relations and Co-operation Minister Naledi Pandor.

Almost 200 000 permit-holders were given a 12-month grace period to regularise their stay with another category of permit after the South African government announced that it would not be extending the permits, which expired on December 31 last year. | IOL

THE Ombudsman for Banking Services (OBS) 2021 annual report revealed that it had seen a 7% increase in the number of complaints opened compared with the previous year.

The issues the ombudsman dealt with included complaints of fraud, maladministration by banks, closure of bank accounts and repossessions.

Financial investigating consultant Emerald van Zyl said there was a lack of political willpower to deal with the country’s banks, which were blatantly discriminating against clients. | IOL
