African show from Disney
AMERICAN mass media and entertainment conglomerate, Walt Disney has announced details of Iwájú – an animated series in collaboration with African comic book entertainment company, Kugali.
In a statement released at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney confirmed that production had commenced with talents working remotely from Nigeria, Uganda, London, Montreal and Burbank, reported Pulse Nigeria.
Iwájú will debut globally in 2022 on Disney+ streaming service, according to international news outlet Quartz.
According to a report by the BBC, Disney said that not only will this be the first time one of its projects will be set in an Africa “that is envisioned and told by filmmakers from the region”, but it is also the first collaboration with another creative company “to bring a project to fruition”.
