THE bail hearing of former Ukhozi FM DJ and erstwhile SABC TV presenter Ngizwe Mchunu will continue at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today.
Prosecutor Yusuf Baba yesterday concluded making submissions for Mchunu to be denied bail. Mchunu is facing a charge of incitement to commit public violence and another two charges of contravening regulations promulgated in terms of the Disaster Management Act to fight the spread of Covid-19.
His legal team is expected to respond to the State’s case in support of his bid to be granted bail. The State played four video clips in court, which it believes shows Mchunu should not be granted bail as he is a flight risk.
In one of the clips, Mchunu, who handed himself over to the police last week, brags during a radio interview that police failed five times to arrest him because of the muti he used.
Outside court yesterday, his supporters, including maskandi artist Igcokama Elisha, expressed their support for him, wearing T-shirts with his face and the words #FreeNgizwe and #Aykhale – his rallying cry for people to back the #FreeJacobZuma campaign.
