Childhood cancer campaign is aiming to raise millions

CHILDHOOD Cancer Awareness Month is getting Cupcakes of Hope this year through the #Bake4Cancer fund-raiser, where 3 000 volunteers are called on to register in an effort to raise R3 million.

Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit said while childhood cancer was a difficult journey, the NPO offered a light-hearted, fun and rewarding way to help kids and their families.

“Volunteers, fondly known as Cupcakes Angels, are between the ages of three and 90 and generously offer their time to bake a difference,” Cupcakes of Hope said.

The organisation said hosting a #Bake4Cancer fund-raiser is a wonderful way to bring family, friends and colleagues together for a good cause.

“From school fund-raisers to pop-up shops, neighbourhood cake sales to innovative and creative corporate team-building activities, every little bit counts… The funds will enable the NPO to continue supporting 120 families.”

“In August, Cupcakes of Hope registered 29 new patients, with the youngest only 10 months old. A total of 137 patients and their families were assisted financially, and 450 activity packs were delivered to all 20 paediatric oncology wards in South Africa.”

Volunteers will receive a complimentary Angel Pack, with a #Bake4Cancer apron, information leaflets, cupcake holders, a recipe card and balloons.

“Additionally, a celebrity virtual bakealong will take place on September 25 from 10-11am. Cupcake Angel and media personality Taryn Louch will be joined by celebrity Chef Ben Ungermann of MasterChef Australia fame and radio and TV personality Leigh-Anne Williams. The bake-along can be joined on the Cupcakes of Hope Facebook and Instagram pages,” the NPO added.
