Tourist kidnapping hot spots

TRAVELLING is a good way to disconnect you from your daily routine and take a break from a stressful life. However, there are certain places or countries that are dangerous for tourists because of levels of crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping.

According to the Global Peace Index, the worst in Africa are South Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Central African Republic, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria.

And other continents including

North America have a list of countries where tourists are not safe.

Latin America remains one the most dangerous places for kidnapping, with Mexico posing the highest threat.

Haiti is also one of the places where chances of being kidnapped as a tourist are high, and kidnappings are a frequent occurrence in Brazil.

Last, but not least, is Columbia, where hikers are most likely to be kidnapped by guerrillas for ransom. |
