Let our indigenous people grow hemp

THAMI ZWANE | Edenvale

OUR major problems are that we spend too much time talking before putting pen to paper.

During these long deliberations, our honourables tease and taunt each other. An institution of serious issues is turned into a mockery show.

The next hurdle after documentation will be implementation. I am indifferent to the Draft Cannabis Master Plan of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza.

Foreign investment will create a fertile ground for corruption. We’ve our own agricultural colleges and universities established at taxpayers’ money. What are they producing if we continue to import?

Give land to the indigenous people to grow hemp. There is no sense in industrialisation and commercialisation if our people are spectators. Surely, we are not born to be eternal proletariat toiling for foreign capitalists.
