SOUTH African municipalities are failing to provide the infrastructure and basic services that allow households a decent standard of living, attract investment and create jobs, according to the Bureau of Economic Research’s report on municipal challenges. It cited examples of how municipal failure could impact on local economic development, such as Clover Industries, which closed its cheese processing facility in Lichtenburg, North West province, because of water and electricity outages, and poor roads, resulting in the loss of 330 jobs. |
