RUMOURS about Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s death are fake news, says the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. The rumour spread this week after a Twitter account, under the name of Bishop Stephen Moreo, tweeted that he had died. The account, which has since been removed from Twitter, had over 15 000 followers. South Africans began to mourn the archbishop, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, before the foundation stepped in. “Archbishop Tutu is firmly with us,” it said. | IOL

CHANGING precipitation patterns, rising temperatures and more extreme weather contributed to mounting food insecurity, poverty and displacement in Africa in 2020, according to a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

This compounded the socio-economic and health crisis triggered by Covid-19, the report said. During 2020, climate indicators in Africa showed continued warming temperatures, rising sea-levels, extreme weather, floods, landslides and droughts. | African News Agency (ANA)
