BEFORE the Pietermaritzburg High

Court rules on whether former president Jacob Zuma’s wish to have the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) advocate Billy Downer removed from prosecuting him, he has opened a criminal case against Downer at the Pietermaritzburg police station. The case stems from

August when, after being granted medical parole, Zuma sent a medical note to Downer to prove that he was unable to be in court. He said soon afterwards, his legal team received questions from a journalist asking about the letter. Zuma wants Downer charged for misconduct. |

VOTERS in Nyanga and Gugulethu wards in the Western Cape will be spoilt for choice when they choose their councillor among 39 candidates in their areas. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said at least two wards in Cape Town will have the longest ballot papers. There were over 12 400 candidates nominated to contest the elections for 844 seats in the Western Cape municipalities. There are 96 political parties vying for seats in the province while 53 metro parties are in Cape Town. A total of 85 independents are contesting in all municipalities, with 41 of them in the metro. |
