The Star E-dition

We must have faith as we rebuild after disaster

FAROUK ARAIE |

The entire area from Ballito to Umkomaas, encompassing the geographical heartland of that area, is in trepidation as a rampaging, indescribable tsunami of water sweeps across KZN, the second in two months. The furious pace of the watery inferno threatens to engulf afflicted areas, turning them into islands of desolation and despair as hunger and immense tragedy stalk the area in a sea of mud.

Graphic scenes are emerging depicting apocalypse on a biblical scale. Sadness and helplessness are flashed across the global media in real time, as a devastated community watches in horror at the scale of destruction. Scenes emerging from most areas are a flashback to the carnage in April that decimated parts of KZN. The entire province is enveloped in a global health emergency that is exacting enormous medical and economic tolls upon humanity.

It is imperative for us as members of humanity and as a species to focus and reflect on the trail of incredible damage the second storm has left in its deadly wake.

Right now, extraordinary and previously unimaginable responses are being taken to contain the watery inferno and lessen its toll.

This mountain of water has crossed towns and major areas indiscriminately, affecting people’s lives regardless of their social status.

While we reaffirm the role of massive aid in fighting this disaster, we should not forget to seek refuge in Almighty God, as we prepare for the onslaught that lies ahead. Our supplications to our creator and our sincere prayers for the whole of humanity will allow us to emerge victorious in a titanic battle with an event that was beyond human comprehension.

The omnipotence of Almighty God is limitless and is therefore all-conquering. We will, in the face of this calamity, with strength and courage rebuild our future with all the fortitude at our disposal.
