Sierra Leone under curfew amid protest

FREETOWN: Sierra Leone declared a nationwide curfew yesterday following a massive protest in the West African country. This week, thousands of protesters took to the streets of the capital Freetown and some other parts of the country, calling on the government to grapple with the high cost of living.

The protest disrupted businesses with shops remaining closed across the capital city for fear of being attacked. At least 21 civilians and six officers were killed in the capital, Freetown.

The internet was also temporarily shut down.
