The Star E-dition

Twitter users reacted differently to a shootout between a group of “citizens” and hijackers in Warner Beach,

@NgcoboSibu

You guys are going to come at me. Please teach me. Were the victims not walking away? Thank goodness they were not kidnapped. Is the biker not putting their lives in further danger by now opening fire? A sincere question. A car can be replaced, life can’t.

@ALETTAHA

The response to this tweet shows how #SouthAfricans appreciate what you do and stand for. We are all so sick to death of the crime, but you are consistently the voice of reason. Who needs #BhekiCele?

@joburgsister

Lifesavers? Not to stand for hijackers but they did not shoot anyone in this video. How did the “law-abiding citizens” protect innocents in their wild gun fight? Did they consider the lives of the hijacking victims not far from where their bullets flew?

@WeberTobias

Now the victims of the hijacking have to live with the trauma of being hijacked as well as seeing someone get shot to death? Seriously...

@swart40

This is horrific viewing and evidence of how callous and desensitised we have become. Also, the law is clear: can’t protect property by taking a human life. Remove all firearms from society.

@Witness16970199

South Africa crime starts from public schools – criminal behaviour starts there. Lawmakers must change policies quickly. Too much lawlessness – kids are ruling, if you want to experience what I am talking visit Cape Town.

@GoldensPam

Who was filming? Where are the bikers? But very glad they got their comeuppance! Be great if they were arrested too.

@JohnyBlue7

I am all for taking out the trash, but there is so much wrong with this. The victims were led away with guns down. The car was leaving. The stolen car was leaving. A stray bullet could have hit the victims. A ricochet could have hit the victims.

@mauriezn

Where is the “biker gang” though, or are they out of the camera’s view? Pity the vehicle got damaged, though, but at least the victims are still alive.

@kfxnando

Have a look on the video at 1min 3sec a SAPS/Metro bakkie drives past on the main road. Another expected achievement by law enforcement.
